Break Specifications
Single/ multiple slates
Programmes can have one distributor and one producer slate at the beginning.  In case of multiple slates please refer back to Information TV.

Middle slates/ End slates
It is possible that some editions will contain middle slates signalling the mid programme break. In this case the slates should be cut. Company slates at the end of a programme can also be cut (unless they are the programme's production company copyright slates).

Credits
Credits should always roll to the end.

Break point
Should be approximately halfway through the programme.

If not possible due to long scenes that cannot be broken it is preferable to break into a (slightly) shorter 1st part and a longer 2nd part.

Do not break scenes or sequences - ideal break is set at change of scenes.

Attention should be paid to voice-overs that go over change of scenes. Obviously they should not be cut.

Start of programme at 10:00:00:00 with 12-frame fade up from black. After logos at end of programme fade down to black over 12 frames ending on ‘00’ frame.

Where programmes need to continue onto a second tape – all of the above applies but start of programme will begin at time code 12:00:00:00 (assuming the first tapes timecode ended after 11:00:00:00).  There must be no programme overlap.

Inserting breaks into programmes
At break point picture must fade down over 12 frames and then back up over 12 frames.  In between the fade up and down there must only be 1 frame of black which must be on “00” and have absolutely no audio.

Time Code
LTC must be recorded on the designated track at flux level of 100nwb/m corresponding to 0db (PPM4).

Timecode must be locked to video and must be continuous throughout the tape, including the line-up section and any breaks.

Code 00.00.00.00 must be field 1, the timecode for the first frame of the programme must be 10.00.00.00.

VITC must match LTC throughout and must be inserted on lines 17, 19, 330, & 332
